This is a game you can play in the forest, in your backyard, at a playground, or even in your living room! Max and the Wild Things are always running, laughing, exploring, and jumping. Test your skills, race with friends, or just have fun with an obstacle course. There are some suggestions from the Wild Things here, but be creative and use cool stuff from around the house the way they did when they built their Ultimate Fort with Max. Challenge each other to come up with the most difficult, creative or awesome obstacle course.
Prepare:
Set up a course of at least 4 “stations.” These stations should be assigned before beginning the race, but can be any fun activity. The stations should be set up and marked in some way around the area or room. The further apart they can be, the better. Some examples:
Station 1 – Slalom
Make a line with any object (cones or water bottles) on the floor with about 2 feet apart from each other. There should be about 5. Here players will have to run around each object (or bike or skateboard) without touching them – crossing between each object.
Station 2 – Jumping In Place
Starting with your hands and feet on the ground, jump up as high as you can 20 times (returning to the starting position each time). Howl like a wolf.
Station 3 – Duck
Set up a “limbo pole” using two stands (like chairs, garbage cans or stacks of books) and a cross bar like the stick Max always carries, or a broom-stick, a baseball bat, or a taut jump rope. Duck or crawl underneath or your way to the next station.
Station 4 – Toss
Set up a target (cans, bowls, or a chalk circle on the ground) and toss 5 objects (beanbags or pennies) onto or into the target. If you’re outside, you can use the Wild Things’ favorite thing to toss: dirt clods.
How to play:
Players line up at the starting line. At the same time, all players begin – and if necessary, start the clock. Players run from station to station seeing who can complete them all and reach the finish line first. Or challenge yourself to see how fast you can do the course twice. Or pick two teams and play as a relay to see which team can have all players reach the finish line first.
